Warm Up

Here at the EADF we want you to get the most from your festival, be well prepared for your day and learn more about how to look after yourself as an aerial practitioner. It is therefore highly recommended that you attend a taught warm up class. Listed below are a variety of classes to choose from.

 

 

Body conditioning for harness (and life!)
All levels – week 1 only

Starting with activities to raise the heart rate, this warm up session will then focus on conditioning exercises (Wanda Moretti’s Vertical Suspension Training for Dancers) specifically designed as preparation for harness work.  We will use some of the equipment from harness work (ropes and ascenders) to create unstable bases for developing core stability.  Working in pairs, the focus will be on developing strength and mobility in the lumbar spine, the connection between the lumbar spine and the abdominal muscles and building stability in the oblique muscles.  

 

Vayu Aerial Yoga Class
All levels – week 2 only

The focus of this class will be to open and connect the body slowly and becoming aware of the breath. 

The Vayu practice takes the body to a much deeper level. Using the support of the swing we are able to challenge the body moving through various postures, as well as allowing the nervous system to relax, encouraging a letting go into complete surrender. Preparing and re-setting the body in a supported, intelligent manner.

Chantal trained with Anna in 2017 and enjoys teaching Vayu as a warm up to help you start the day from a relaxed and open place.

Vinyasa Yoga 
All levels  -
weeks 1 & 2

An energising yoga class to warm up, open and balance the body in readiness for the day ahead. 

You’ll be led through a series of flowing asanas to gently tone the body, increase the range of movement and improve general agility and co-ordination.

Quote from last year, ’I loved this class – it really kicked my butt!’. We promise slightly less ‘Chaturanga Dandasanas’ (AKA tricep killers) this year!

If you have a yoga/exercise mat please bring it with you.

 

Dance
All levels  - weeks 1 & 2

Easing you gently into your day this class is a festival hit every year.

A head-to-toe warm up, that will generate heat in the body through breath, and open the body through a series of repetitive short movement sequences which we’ll build on as the week progresses, leaving you energised for your day ahead.

This is essentially a dance warm up so some prior dance experience and ability to pick up movement material is desirable.

NB you should have some dance experience to join this class

 

Cyr Wheel Surgery
Skilled / Advanced - 
week 2 only

This class is designed to teach you how to make more accurate self assessments, increase your understanding of how to move better and improve strength, flexibility and co-ordination. 

We will look at injury patterns associated with cyr wheel, different ways to prepare the body for the demands of training from a biomechanical, physiological and neural perspective and techniques to train the vestibular system to reduce the effects of dizziness. 

There will also be opportunity to go into a more in-depth study of individual difficulties and limitations you might be experiencing in your practice.

Please wear comfortable, close-fitting training clothes. Shoes should be slim soled plimsolls/trainers – Feiyue’s.
