Vertical Dance

Vertical Dance Technique: Skilled/Advanced

Strictly for aerialists with prior single point sit harness experience!

Working on sit harnesses, after checking through known vocabulary with each of you, we’ll build throughout the week towards more dynamic vocabulary, choreography and creative play, exploring set repertory sequences against the wall and suggested material for improvisation.

Pre-requisites: You must have previously attended a vertical dance course or have significant single point harness experience on the wall. You should be familiar with, confident and competent in demonstrating the pre-requisite list of spatial and physical propositions;

  • Planks on different planes
  • Finding your balance point on feet or hands under the rigging point
  • Jumping away and returning to the wall  - with control!
  • Comfortable with rotations, (basic forward and back somy’s) and cartwheels on the wall.

None of these have to be perfect though, just available to you!

Please wear multiple snug layers around your hips and waist for your comfort. Long sleeved shirts are also handy for some moves.

If you have a climbing harness you prefer and any kit (gri-gris, rigs, karabiners etc.), please bring them with you.

 

Vertical Dance Creative Lab: Skilled/advanced

12.00pm - 1.30 pm Week 1

4.15pm  – 5.45pm Week 2

In these creative labs we’ll start with guided improvisations and build on these into creative play. We’ll look at spatial relationships, explore different rigging propositions and the available potential between floor and air working in solos, duets and groups.

You must have prior vertical dance experience and a willingness to explore to take this class, technique will not be taught in this class!

 

Vertical Dance Repertory Class: skilled/advanced

Using sit harnesses, we'll begin by working through rigging and harness vocabulary with each of you before moving into exploring Lindsey’s set choreographic sequences on the wall. 

This class is a great way to learn new vocabulary, challenge your spatial orientation and practise building choreography and performing longer phrases.

Vertical Dance & Aerial Dance Harness Act Refinement Lab: Skilled/Advanced

6.00pm – 7.30pm ­ Week 2 only (LIMITED PLACES AVAILABLE)

Come with an idea, or a music track that inspires you to move, or an image or emotion that you want to explore, together with a willingness to investigate a proposition on single or side ick up harness on the wall or floor.

Expect to be gently encouraged to be braver and dig deeper to challenge and surprise yourself.

This is your opportunity to learn more about your creative process.

For this class you can choose to work either with Kat or with Lindsey. We will ask you to state your preference and try to accommodate this.

Should you wish to work towards performing your piece there will be an opportunity to do so on the evening of Sat 18th. You can however just come to the class to experience the process – performing is optional.

NB If you have a particular simple rigging proposition you would like to explore (within reason) we will endeavour to work with you to rig it. If it requires special equipment then please discuss it with Lindsey in advance info@gravity-levity.net.

 

 

Vertical Dance Harness Technique: Explorer/improver

weeks 1 & 2

Beginning with a short daily intro on specific core strengthening and preparation for harness and an introduction to the rigging kit, we’ll move through basic orientation and vocabulary and build towards learning jumps, somersaults, as well as linking choreography with the possibility for creative play.

Please wear multiple snug layers around your hips and waist for your comfort and slim soled plimsolls or pumps for working on the wall - Feiyues are ideal!
