COUNTERWEIGHT HARNESS

Counterweight Harness Technique – Improver and up

10.15am – 11.45am – Week 1 & 2
Space F, chandelier 2 (free standing rig)- Chantal McCormick & Pepe

Counterweight flying and dance using side pick-up harnesses. Fidget Feet have been using and developing counterweight flying in their work since 2004. This is a really fun fast-moving class. We will recap and add onto harness techniques as we strongly believe that great flyers become great counterweight artists and vice-versa.

We’ll teach you how to work on the ladder as a counter-weighter and also work on guided improvisation between the flyer and counter-weighter. This class is geared towards the exploration of counterweight artist and flyer so make sure you have some skills in side pick-up flying or knowledge of the ladder counterweight role when considering this as a class. The first two sessions will be used to ensure that everyone has a competent, sound basic knowledge of the flyers and will teach you the  counterweight system, once we are happy that the class is safe, then we will progress into group rep work and guided improvisation.

Please wear multiple snug layers around your hips, waist and thighs for your comfort and bring crystallised ginger for the non-spinners among us! If you have a bungee (side pick-up) harness, please bring it along.

*This class is suitable for dancers, aerialists and counterweight riggers who have some experience in flying, even if you haven’t done so in a while.
